The Lighthouse Letter

A monthly letter on technology and the forces reshaping modern life — written on paper, for readers who value understanding over urgency.

Every major trend produces its counter-trend. The faster the world moves, the more valuable it becomes to slow down and think clearly about what is actually happening.

The Lighthouse Letter is a private monthly briefing on technological change — artificial intelligence, the reshaping of professional work, the future of markets, the forces altering how we live and what we leave behind. Each issue is written on paper, mailed to your door, and addressed to you by name.

This is not a technology tips guide. It is not a gadget review. It is not a rushed digest of the latest headlines. It is a thoughtful, unhurried explanation of what actually matters — written for experienced people who would rather understand clearly than react quickly.

Every major trend produces its counter-trend.
This letter exists in the counter-current.

Each issue is written by J.D. Alexander from Bethesda, Maryland. Every letter you write back is read personally, and answered.

Each issue explores a single subject in depth. One topic per month, building on the last, designed to give you a clear and lasting framework for understanding the forces reshaping the world around you.

The issues ahead include:

Artificial intelligence and what it actually is · The transformation of professional work · Technology and the family · The changing nature of truth and media · Digital identity and cybersecurity · Privacy, regulation, and the state · Technology and capital markets · Robotics and the physical world · The geopolitics of technology · Longevity and the biology revolution · The energy transition · A synthesis of the decade ahead

Each issue includes a personal opening, a clear explanation of the month's subject, historical context that grounds the present in something recognizable, concrete implications for your life and decisions, and a closing reflection.

It should feel like a thoughtful letter from someone who has done the work of understanding so that you don't have to sort through the noise yourself.

The Lighthouse Letter arrives as a physical booklet — printed on premium uncoated paper, saddle-stitched, and mailed in a cream envelope with a real stamp. It is designed to be read in a quiet setting, away from screens, with the kind of focus that good thinking requires.
